So after all is said and done, how much is this going to cost? (Assassins - continued) There is no "package" for this show. We've covered about a hundred and forty productions and sometimes it seems that no two orders have ever gone out exactly the same. Sometimes a theatre might already have a couple of props in-house that can work, sometimes they want to limit the number of guns that actually fire, sometimes the sound is taped only, sometimes there are a couple of background police that need guns ... you get the idea. But let's go through a worst and best case scenario: Assassins price comparison :
Firing Non-firing Booth pistol (DeWinter) 60.00 12.00 revolver 42.50 15.00 Guiteau revolver 49.50 19.00 Czolgosz revolver 41.88 15.00 Zangara revolver 42.00 15.00 Ozwald rifle (non-firing only) 77.00 77.00 revolver 40.00 15.00 Moore revolver 34.00 15.00 Fromme pistol 54.38 12.00 Byck revolver 17.00 12.00 Hinckley revolver 29.00 12.00
shipping (one way) 50.00 50.00
total 537.00 271.00
That, of course, is assuming that Booth and Ozwald need both guns. What it does not include are the blanks, which can run from 29¢ to 72¢ each. That's right; if everyone in the show has to fire, in a two-week run you could be adding $75 to $300 just in blanks, so then you are in the $800 range. It is not uncommon for a four-week run to reach $1,400.
