Broadswords

Remember: most guards can be fitted with any blade, although the blade choice may affect the grip length and pommel size. Choose the blade for the fighting style; choose the guard for the look. All grips are wood.

("what kind of blade do I need?") blade choices

405- CALEDONIA -e inspired by the Scottish Claymore, this is an open-work design with four drooping arms meeting gracefully at each end. A fight-friendly choice for the Scottish play when massive swords are desired. Due to the weight of the 9" guard, it is not recommended with a single-hand blade. Weight of sword is 4 lbs, 2 oz.

hand-and-a-half = $225

417 - BOLLINGBROOK -e An excellent fight worthy single-hand sword with an interesting steel guard.

 single-hand – $185

                hand-and-a-half = $195

418- VIPER -e the lightest fully fight worthy broadsword we make. Also the most traditional look, with slight beveling in the 12 inch guard for maximum response.

one-hand = $185

                hand-and-a-half = $195

411 - BLACK PRINCE -e the slightly non-traditional steel arms on this 11 inch guard have been hollowed for minimum weight at maximum strength.

Weight of sword is: 2 lbs, 10 oz. when fitted with a one-hand blade

                                  3 lbs, 6 oz. when fitted with a hand-and-a-half blade

one-hand = $215

hand-and-a-half = $221

413 - NORMAN -e from the Seine Valley to the battle of Hastings, from Lombardy to Tripoli, the Norman knight dominated warfare of the Middle Ages and transformed forever the concept of the nobleman/warrior. Was this incredible success due to his superior armament, especially the exquisitely crafted sword? Well, actually, no.

It is, however, a really good sword.

one-hand = $205

                hand-and-a-half = $210

    415 - Henry VIII-e This sword is intended for two handed use only, so the only fight-worthy blade we use here is the hand-and-a-half broadsword. The cross guard is heavy, but only 8 1/2 inches across, meaning that the overall weight of the sword (4 lbs., 12 oz.) is well balanced right in the hands, and the arms of the guard don't strike your forearms when doing circular moves. For those with good arm strength, this is a fine combat piece.

 hand-and-a-half = $195

417 - MADERA - e A fine fight worthy single-hand sword with an interesting worked steel guard. We really liked this sword, but the steel for the guard came from Italy and is no longer available. We have exactly two of these left. Take advantage of the lowest priced broadswords you'll find.               one-hand = $174

   V69 - PRINCE VALIANT -e   How about a shield to go with that single-hand broadsword? steel, 17" x 22" , combat ready  -    $120

Sword of the Samurai

800 - KATANA - plain -e a strong, medium-weight, very responsive weapon. The Japanese style of fighting used very little parrying, but our sword is built for the western bashing style of stage combat.

katana – [$223]      sheath - [$25] call for availability

Shortswords

Historical note: The most common first millennium blade was distinctively leaf shaped, which was the pre-steel weapons-maker’s way of making the short, stocky blade extremely powerful, yet still as light as possible. As steel became available, the same guards were used with longer blades.

422- BERSERKER -e quite the barbarian feel, with a distinctive pommel common to Nordic tribes (also available as a dagger)

shortsword = $183

leaf-blade = $169

570 - SPATHA - The Romans were the first to specifically train their soldiers in the use of the sword as a tactical tool and then build their battle formations around it. Great for both Roman and Greek look.

shortsword = $161

leaf-blade = $147

long sword = $161
