Shields for rent

Did you know that... most successful shields throughout history were made of wood, not metal? Arrows will go right through even ¼ inch steel, but are easily absorbed and held by a far lighter and thicker wooden shield. Unfortunately, we don't carry wood shields as theatres reject them because they don't "clang".

Shields are held by sliding the forearm through a strap, and then grasping a handle with the hand

By the way - feel free to paint the shields however you'd like!

V16 - ROMAN SHIELD flat rectangle, and made of tough Lexan, a high impact plastic. The Romans made theirs of what we would call plywood, and it was curved, but a faithful recreation has proven too heavy for actors to carry. Lexan is light and tough, but is not steel, so sword and shield techniques must be modified accordingly. 37" x 19" [$19.20]

   V80- LENS - steel, 18" [$38.00]

    V81 - PECHUGA - with a central raised mons. 18" [$48.00]

    V69 - PRINCE VALIANT SHIELD - steel, 17" x 22" [$24.00]

V65 - RICHARD III SHIELD - It's tough to play Gloucester for two hours with a withered arm and then have to convincingly fight like a demon. To give him a little help, we took the Prince Valiant above and gave it a good bend so that it wraps around his left shoulder, leaving his left side is completely protected. When strapped to his bent arm, he is free to fight with the best of them.  steel, 12" x 22" [$27.00]

On the other hand bucklers are held only by the hand from a central handle.

V71- BUCKLER - LENS - whereas a shield is strictly defensive, the buckler is an offensive weapon. Grasped in its center with the hand (as opposed to hanging from the forearm) the buckler punches the opponent’s sword out of the way. Mainly a civilian weapon. Steel, 13" [$19.20]

V72- PALOMAR BUCKLER - flatter than the above H86, but with a raised center for more punching power. Steel, 13" [$19.20]

V73- PECHUGA BUCKLER - tiny flat buckler with a mons. Steel, 10" [$15.00]

Y47 - MEDIEVAL HELMET – in black steel with an adjustable liner, reminiscent of the early Norman style, but with a bit more security for that nose-guard.   [$11.35]
